Maturity

Before passing youth enrages,

reminisce on the quality of aging.

Understand all the words on the pages.

Your ears do not hear the rising of time;

Your mind does not heed the alarms

of your body unwinding.

Embrace your life with open arms

then say farewell.

When earthly light grows dim, rush on.

Sadie

Beige and gray mottled fur

with celery eyes

staring in concentration and apparent surprise.

What has captured your attention?

Seeing nothing I look back

to meet your gaze of satisfaction.

The hunter uses clever ploys

its prey to tantalize

a quiet mysterious purr

and innocent celery eyes.
