EASON CHAN (SO HOT) (EEG)
(SEP00)
|
This is Eason Chan's (or Chen
Yi Xun) brand new release under a new label. After
listening to the whole album, I'm glad to say that his departure
from Capital Artists may be a wise move after all.
Most of the tracks here are of competent
quality and radio-friendly. The
first single cum title track "So Hot" is a thumping
dance track. On the other hand, the second single
"The King Of Karaoke" is a nice ballad composed and
produced by Chen Hui Yang and written by Lin Xi. The
CD comes with a bonus VCD which contains the music video for
"So Hot".

EASON CHAN (68'29")
(CAPITAL ARTISTS) (SEP00)
|
Personally I'm glad Eason Chan
(or Chen Yi Xun) is leaving Capital Artists for good, especially
after witnessing the drastic deteriorating quality of his past
few releases. Let's hope his new sign-on with EEG will
prove a wise move for this talented singer. This
release is a compilation album by Capital Artists, which is no
doubt timed deliberately to come out around the same period as
his upcoming debut offering under his new label EEG. Containing
a total of sixteen tracks, it includes two brand new songs
"Sky Net" and "So You Are Not Here" which
are the theme-songs for the TVB serial "A Matter Of
Customs" (or Lei Ting Di Yi Guan) starring Lisa Wang and
Wong Hei. As for the
remaining fourteen collection songs, they are made up of some of
Eason's best-known hits in Capital Artists such as "Invincible"
(or Tian Xia Wu Shuang), "My Happy Times" (or Wo De
Kuai Le Shi Dai), "I Have Nothing" (or Wo Shen Mo Dou
Mei You) and "Time Song" (or Shi Dai Qu).

SAMMI CHENG (LADIES FIRST)
(WARNER MUSIC) (AUG00)
|
This is a busy year for Sammi
Cheng. Not only is she working hard to cling on to her
reign as the Hong Kong Pop Queen, she has also set her sights on
the movie industry. Her latter efforts have started to pay
off handsomely. She was recently nominated "Best
Actress" in Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards for her role in
the movie "Needing You" (or Gu Nan Gua Nu) co-starring
Andy Lau. "Needing You" is also the
biggest-grossing Hong Kong movie for 2000. Her other movie
"Summer Holiday" ( or Xia Ri Mo Mo Cha) (co-starring
Richie Ren) also scored by being the third highest-grossing Hong
Kong movie for 2000. Her
latest Cantonese album "Ladies First" contains the
theme-songs for the afore-mentioned two movies.
"Along The Line Of Emotion" is the main theme-song for
the movie "Needing You". "Happy Or
Not" (a Mandarin track) and "If We Don't See Each
Other Again" are the respective main and supporting
theme-songs for "Summer Holiday". The
CD comes with a bonus VCD containing the four music videos for
"Happy Or Not", "If We Don't See Each Other
Again", the catchy title track "Ladies First" and
the techno dance track "Sha Ke". To top it up,
an additional bonus CD is included which contains a remix
version of "Sha Ke". (Important
Note : Sammi's Singapore fans need to take note of
something. The Singapore edition of "Ladies
First" is quite different from the Hong Kong version.
The Singapore edition contains the Mandarin tracks for the
theme-song of "Needing You" and the supporting
theme-song of "Summer Holiday". Also the
bonus VCD contains only three music videos as the MTV for "Sha
Ke" was left out. The bonus remix CD is also not
included.)

CHEUNG KA FAI (I CAN LOVE) (EEG)
(AUG00)
|
TVB actor Cheung Ka Fai (or
Zhang Jia Hui) has released his very first album which is in the
form of an EP. Beforehand, I've read about reports saying
that his vocals resemble Heavenly King Jacky Cheung. After
hearing his debut work, I can't find a trace of resemblance at
all as unlike Jacky, Ka Fai has a higher-pitch and much softer
voice. His vocal efforts are quite commendable considering
this is his maiden offering. The
album contains six tracks. His first single cum title
track "I Can Love" is a catchy and radio-friendly
song. The second single "Subconsciously" is an
easy-listening ballad which showcases his competent
falsettos. The
record company has utilised his status as an actor by including
two theme songs : one for his movie "The Gambler 3"
(titled "Fake Hope) and the other one for his TVB serial
"Four Talented Guys" (titled "You Don't Need Much
Reason To Love"). The latter theme song is a duet
sung together with his girlfriend cum TVB actress Esther Kwan
(or Guan Yong He). The
EP CD comes with a bonus VCD containing the music videos for
"I Can Love" and "Fake Hope".
