EASON CHAN (NOTHING REALLY
MATTERS) (CAPITAL ARTISTS) (JUL00)
|
Eason Chan's (or Chen Yi Xun)
album covers seem to be getting from bad to worse. From
the simple amateur merry-go-round cover pic in "Happiness"
to the appalling-green colour cover of his concert release "Eason
& Friends Live Concert", now comes this laughable
pic of him on the shirt of a Caucasian woman. In fact, the
inner cover lyrics sheet has more of his faces imprinted on the
shirts of other people, but at least that is ok since they are
not used on the cover. Well, maybe we'll get to see better
visual stuff in his next release since he is leaving Capital
Artists and joining EEG, the same record company which houses
some recent heavy-weights like Nicholas Tse and Joey Yung. This
new CD therefore marks his final album with Capital
Artists. Containing a total of ten tracks, it includes
songs written by singer Candy Lo (or Lu Qiao Ying), Eric Kwok,
Liu Chong Yan (the guy who wrote Faye Wong's hit "Red
Bean" or "Hong Dou"), lyricists Lin Xi and Huang
Wei Wen.

LESLIE CHEUNG (MEGA HOT)
(UNIVERSAL MUSIC) (JUL00)
|
Just like the title of his
latest Cantonese LP implies, Leslie Cheung (or Zhang Guo Rong)
is still as hot as ever. Not only is he preparing for his
year 2000 sold-out concert in Hong Kong (fashion side-note : all
his concert clothes are reportedly designed by Jean Paul
Gautier), two of his new album tracks "Mega Hot" and
"No Love" have simultaneously reached within the top
twenty spots of one of the leading HK radio-station charts. Containing
a total of of thirteen vocal tracks (including two Mandarin
songs), the release includes the first single cum title track
"Mega Hot"; the main theme-song "No Love"
for his new highly-anticipated Gordan Chan-directed movie
"Okinawa Rendezvous" co-starring singer Faye Wong and
Tony Leung (or Liang Jia Hui); and the finale theme song for his
upcoming concert "Me". The
album comes in the AVCD format, which doubles up as a VCD and
contains the music video for his new afore-mentioned track
"No Love". The
limited-edition CD comes bundled with six exclusive postcards of
Leslie.

KAREN MOK (KAREN MOK) (ROCK
RECORDS) (JUL00)
|
Looking like a demure
Vietnamese girl on the cover, Karen Mok (or Mo Wen Wei) has
released her second Cantonese EP. Containing
five tracks altogether, the EP is produced by, among others,
Zhang Jia Tian, Anthony Wong (or Huang Yao Ming) and Grasshopper
member Calvin Choi (or Cai Yi Zhi). The
first single is the ballad "The Light Of The Arctic
Pole" which is actually the Cantonese version of her new
Mandarin recording "Summer Fruit" contained in her
latest best-selling Mandarin compilation "Karen
More". I've
always been impressed by Karen's vocal versatility whether she's
singing or talking. This EP contains a jaw-dropping
dance-rap number "What Women Need To Know" which sees
her rattling away confidently at a perfect rhythmic speed.
Awesome.
