DANIEL CHAN (BE HAPPIER THAN
ME) (UNIVERSAL MUSIC) (APR00)
|
Channel 2000倫敦體驗,新登場!魅力滿載!最受期待音樂真風格New
Album「比我幸福」。
|
After the tragic death of his female manager
in January this year, Daniel Chan has been trying to keep a
low profile from the ever-prying public eye. Now just when
he is about to release his long-awaited brand new Mandarin
album, the poor guy is once again hounded by the media for his
supposedly "underground" love affair with fellow
colleague Cecilia Cheung (or Zhang Bo Zhi). Let's hope
more people will focus on his music than on his private life.
Six producers from different countries are
roped in to help out in the music work. They are Chen Wei,
Chen Zi Hong, Bao Xiao Bo (three of them from Taiwan), the
Singapore twin brothers Li Si Song & Li Wei Song, and
Daniel's Hong Kong music producer Kenneth Fong (or Fang Shu
Liang).
The ten-track album is billed by the record company
as a personal insight into Daniel's own feelings. There
seems to be a somber mood surrounding this release, most of the
tracks are mid-tempo and slow, quite unlike his previous
Mandarin releases which contain more up-tempo dance numbers.
The first single cum title track "Be
Happier Than Me" is a sure-fire karaoke hit ballad composed
by by Li Wei Song & Li Jing Shen and written by Chen Jing
Nan. In Taiwan, this song is also the Mandarin theme-song
for the Ang Lee's movie "Ride With The Devil"
(starring singer Jewel and uprising actor Tobey Maguire).
The second single is a light-tempo song
called "Love You More Day By Day" which is the
Mandarin cover of the boy group Westlife's song "Open Your
Heart". Other covers include : his Cantonese songs
"Gift" and "Moonlight Bath" (both are found
in his last Cantonese offering "Substance")
which are now sung in Mandarin as "Don't Wanna Sleep"
and "Dream" respectively; and "Won't Be
Alone" which is the cover of Japanese ballad crooner
Hideaki Tokunaga's (or De Yong Ying Ming) song "Bokund
Ballad".
Song-writers include Yuan Wei Ren and Malaysian singer Deng
Zhi Zhang.
Finally, Daniel flew specially to London to
shoot the album pics and to film his music videos.

KELLY CHAN (LOVE YOU SO MUCH)
(DECCA RECORDS) (APR00)

陳慧琳全新國語專輯-「愛你愛的」天后製作人馬玉芬、雷頌德、JIM

After more than a year, Kelly Chan (or Chen
Hui Lin) has come out with a brand new Mandarin album (note :
her last Mandarin offering "Love
Kelly" is a compilation release).
The recording for this album was reportedly
completed already last year but for undisclosed reasons, Decca
Records has waited till now to release it. It may have
something to do with the fact that this is the last album that
Decca Records is distributing for Kelly under her contract and furthermore there
are rumours that East Entertainment (the company which Kelly, William So
and Andy Hui are signed to) is going to end their collaboration
with Decca Records and switch to What's Music (note : Decca
Records and What's Music are actually somewhat related companies
since both fall under the umbrella of the massive Universal
Music group).
There are four producers helming the music
work : Paula Ma (or Ma Yu Fen), Jim Lee, Zhou Bo Xiong (or
better known as the former singer Xiao Gang) and Hong Kong
musician Mark Lui (Lei Song De). Expect to hear various
music styles including R&B, techno, reggae, hip-hop and slow
sentimental.
The first single cum title track "Love
You So Much" is a radio-friendly ballad written by former
singer Zuo An An.
More than half of the songs here are
composed and written by Hong Kong writers such as Mark Lui, Lin
Xi and singer Eddie Ng (or Wu Guo Jing). One of these
tracks is "Care Too Much" (or Dui Ni Tai Zai Hu),
a mid-tempo ballad which is the Mandarin version of her
Cantonese hit of the same name.
Possibly to prove their sincerity in
working with Kelly, Decca Records has forked out a hefty
packaging sum to make a so-called "Kelly Pack" which
comes in the form of a magazine-size file which depicts the
ravishing Heavenly Queen as a cover girl on both sides of the
file. Inside the file, it is equipped with a specially
engraved pencil and a thick memo pad. There are only
50,000 copies of the "Kelly Pack" available Asia-wide
so if you are a devoted fan, make sure you grab this
limited-edition copy.

A MEI (VOICE) (FORWARD MUSIC) (APR00)
|
10首世紀絕讚經典重現!一場A-Mei
與古典管弦樂完美交融的音樂饗宴。由情歌聖手鄔裕康唯美詩清填詞,A-Mei中文版浪漫詮釋「Time
To Say Goodbye」。A-Mei的另一種全方位風貌,讓你在此珍藏!
|
This is the live recording of the March concert
that A Mei (or Zhang Hui Mei) held in Hong Kong recently together with
The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
It contains
specially selected songs that highlight the various music eras
and styles of Mandarin, English, Cantonese and Hokkien music
history. Refer below for the full song listing in
Big5 Chinese.
The first single "Time To Say
Goodbye" is the Mandarin cover of the high-profile duet of
the same name by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. A Mei
has specially filmed a music video for this live track in which
she is seen donning an eye-catching white gown which looks like
a wedding outfit to me. Other
songs that she covered include Whitney Houston's movie hit song
"I Will Always Love You", Abba's evergreen track
"Mamma Mia" and the Mandarin oldie song
"Unforgettable" or "Yi Nan Wang". For
the first time, she tried her hand on two Hokkien and Cantonese
numbers. The Hokkien song selected by her is reportedly
her most favourite dialect track called "Who Understands My
Feelings" written by Taiwan's king of Hokkien pop cum
song writer Cai Zheng Nan. As for the Cantonese song
"Genius and Stupid" (or Tian Cai Yu Bai Chi), it is
written by Hong Kong's former and retired king of pop Sam Hui. I'm
quite disappointed with the visual design of the album.
Besides the cover picture, there are no other photos of A Mei
found inside the album sleeves. They could have shown more
snippets of that night's event for the benefit of her fans who
did not have the chance to fly to Hong Kong to watch the
concert. Let's hope
Forward Music will release a VCD of this live performance as I
think it will make a better buy.
