Sammi

Queen of Pop Sammi Cheng (or Zheng Xiu Wen)
has released her fourth brand new Mandarin album.
Two heavy-weight female producers took
charge of the whole album music : Paula Ma Yu Fen and Sandee
Chen Shanni. The marketing team of her record company has
labelled the music collaboration from these three women as
providing a feminine "3D" effect, that is, Deep (by
Sandee), Detail (by Paula) and Different (by Sammi).
The first single is the easy-listening
"Famous Words Of Wisdom" composed by You Hong Ming and
written by veteran lyricist Chen Le Rong. The second
single being plugged in Taiwan is the mid-tempo ballad
"Till The Spring Is Over" written by the Liu
songwriting duo, namely Liu Zhi Hong and Liu Si Ming. On
the other hand, the second single that can be heard over the
Singapore radio waves is the ballad "You Want Me To Be
Brave" which reunites the two song writers, composer Lin
Dong Song and lyricist Liao Ying Ru, both of whom wrote the
previous hit song "I Deserved" (or Wo Yin Gai De Dao)
for Sammi.

Sony Music has finally rolled out their female
new star for 2000 : Michelle (or Zheng Xue Er).
Background info : she's a Singaporean
Chinese with a bit of mixed blood in her; she was not born with
a Chinese name, apparently she was called Michelle all her life,
Zheng Xue Er is only her showbiz name; she first caught the
attention of the media when she appeared in a mobile phone
advertisement alongside Aaron Kwok; she has appeared in a few
music videos such as Aaron Kwok's "The Call Of Love"
(or Ai De Hu Huan) and Nicholas Tse's "Old Wound" (or
Jiu Shang Kou); and she recently acted in Hong Kong's TVB serial
"At The Threshold Of An Era - Part II" (or Chuang Shi
Ji II) alongside Louis Koo (or Gu Tian Le) (gossip : the Hong
Kong media has reported that they are seeing each other
secretly).
This ten-track
debut album is produced by Qian You Lan (note : she also
produced another new release - "Shoulder"
by Hong Wei), Chen Zi Hong and Jim Lee.
The first single is the light-tempo "I
Am The Sun" composed by Edmond Leung and written by Yi Jia
Yang. The second single is the title track folkish ballad
"Upfront" composed by Zheng Hua Juan and written by He
Hou Hua. The third single is "Baby I Love You"
which is the Mandarin cover of the hit "Shakespeare In
Love" by Layla Kaylif.

Hong Kong veteran singer Prudence Lau (or Liu
Mei Jun) has returned to the showbiz world after more than six
years and surprised, surprised, she has released a brand new
Mandarin album.
Produced solely by Big Brother Jonathan Lee
(whose wife Sandy Lam is a good friend of Prudence, having
collaborated together in the 1996 group duet "I
Swear"), this album is partly recorded in Vancouver Canada.
Over half of the songs here are written by
Jonathan Lee & Pan Xie Qing, and the songs largely revolve
around the subject of love which is observed from a woman's
perspective. The music style is made up mostly of
easy-listening slow to mid-tempo ballads with a Western flavour.
The first single "Everytime I'm
Serious" is a mid-tempo ballad composed and co-written by
Pan Xie Qing. It features the backup vocals of Jasmine
Leung (or Liang Jing Ru) who also appears in other songs in the
album.

After more than three years, ex-air
stewardess Hong Wei has released her second album under a new
record label. To signify a new beginning, she has even
changed the Chinese character of "Wei" found in her
name. The album is produced by
female musician Qian You Lan (who took up the production work
for seven out of the ten tracks here) and music arranger Tu Hui
Yuan. Various music styles can be
found here such as dance, jazz, ballad, rock and retro.
Song writers include the producers themselves (Qian You Lan and
Tu Hui Yuan), Yao Ruo Long, Yang Li De and Mo Fan. Hong
Wei's voice is decent and sometimes I find she sounds a bit like
another female beauty singer Yang Lin. The
first single is the Latin-feel dance track "Kiss"
composed by Qian You Lan. The second single is the ballad
"Toy" composed by Tu Hui Yuan and written by Zhang
Chun Chun. The title track "Shoulder" is a light
jazz piece written by Mo Fan (note : Mo Fan used to be from the
duo group Fan Ren Er Chong Chang which was formed with another
song-writer Yuan Wei Ren).
