FAYE WONG (FABLE) (EMI MUSIC) (OCT00)
2000年全華人最期帶的專輯
最重量級的作品今年就只有-王菲
Finally, it's out.  True to Faye Wong's (or Wang Fei) testament of being the 1999 best-selling artiste in Singapore, I've personally seen tons of people queuing up in a Singapore record shop to grab hold of her new album on its first day of release, 20 Oct 2000.  I wouldn't be surprised if it shot to the number one spot immediately on its debut entry into the SPVA chart (Singapore's album chart list).

The first five songs in the album are composed by Faye Wong & written by Lin Xi, and apparently a fable tale (hence I guess that's how they come up with the CD title) can be somewhat weaved together via their "ancient" song names.  There's even a legend dictionary inside the album sleeve to help explain certain terms in the song titles and the lyrics.  A surreal and mystery feel permeates throughout these five songs (no doubt helped by the brilliant arrangement of Zhang Ya Dong) and it's as if the listener is immersing in the soundtrack tunes of a movie.

The mood lightens up all of the sudden in the second half of the twelve-track album, with the songs becoming more radio-friendly.  Various song-writers chipped in to help achieve this, including C Y Kong who contributed an elegant piano jazz piece "Book Of Exhilaration" (also the first single from this album) and Pan Xie Qing who composed the brilliant world-music track "You Like As Well As I Like" (this is the second single selected for air-play in Singapore, although in Taiwan, "Chanel" is the official second single).

Produced by Faye Wong, Zhang Ya Dong and Alvin Leong, the album is partly recorded in China & Hong Kong, with the final mixing being done in England.

WINNIE HSIN (TALK ABOUT LOVE) (ROCK RECORDS) (OCT00)
走過領悟迎向微笑
辛曉琪2000年全心力作談情看愛

OK, I know what some of you must be asking : is that really Winnie on the cover?  Well, I've consulted some friends who are in tune with the happenings in the music showbiz and the answer is "no" (did I hear sighs of disappointment or rather relief?).

Winnie Hsin's (or Xin Xiao Qi) latest effort reportedly took more than one year to assemble.  Instead of falling back on her reputed repertoire of heart-breaking songs, one can expect to hear a happier and upbeat side of Winnie in this album which is wholly produced by music guru Jonathan Lee Zong Sheng.

Another note-worthy mention is that an orchestra has been roped in to provide the music backing for some of the numbers here, such as the first ballad single "Person In Front" which sounds a bit out-dated to me.

The second single cum title track "Talk About Love" is another mid-tempo song written by local song writer cum singer Lin Yi Xin (side-note : he is one of the members of the group Dreamz FM who is set to release their second album soon).  In fact, Lin Yi Xin composed two other works for Winnie, making him the composer to contribute the most songs to this album.

The first batch of limited-edition CDs comes with a bonus karaoke CD (not VCD) which contains the instrumental pieces of "Talk About Love" and four of her previous hits "Waiting Behind You" (or Zai Ni Bei Ying Shou Hou), "Learnt" (or Ling Wu), "Smell" (or Wei Dao) and "Admit" (or Cheng Ren).

If you have RealPlayer , you can click below to preview four of the new tracks.

FANN WONG (NO PROBLEM) (EMI MUSIC) (OCT00)
清新愛爾蘭民謠風
10首星台2地強勢音樂人跨國合作好歌
After holding a sell-out concert in Singapore and releasing her photo-shoot collection "In The Mood", Fann Wong (or Fan Wen Fang) has finally released her fourth solo album "No Problem".

In her latest offering, there is a strong Irish folk music flavour permeating throughout the album.  Take for instance the first single cum title track "No Problem".  Composed by Ken Lim and written by Taiwan host Huang Zi Jiao (or Jiao Jiao), the song evokes a lively and catchy feeling which is accompanied by an Irish music style arrangement as evidenced by the generous use of violins and flutes.  The third single "Your Temperature" is another Ken Lim-composition which is also an Irish-infused dance number.

Fann's personal favourite song in the album is reportedly the second ballad single "Wish" as it aptly touches on her afterthoughts and feelings relating to her much-publicised eleven-year-old relationship which folded last year.

The ten-track album is wholly produced by local musicians such as Ke Gui Ming, Lin Yi Xin (member of the group Dreamz FM) and Shah Tahir.

The limited edition CD comes coupled with CD-Rom format which allows her fans to play online games provided by a Taiwanese portal www.hiplayer.com

If you have Windows Media Player , you can click below to preview the first two singles.
