KAREN MOK (ON THE TWELFTH
FLOOR)
(ROCK RECORDS) (OCT00)
|
非我莫屬訴派情歌
傾聽莫文蔚傾城之戀曲
每一首都會聽見你自己
|
Fans of Karen Mok may rejoice on learning that
her latest album reunites her with music guru Jonathan Lee who
was responsible for her 1999 best-selling work "You
Can" as well as her hit song "Overcast" (or
Yin Tian).
The album was released around the same time
as her recently-held Taiwan concert, in which the highlights
included her fashion parade of sexy outfits plus her public
smooch with girl pal cum "Tempting Heart" movie
co-star Gigi Leung (or Liang Yong Qi).
Coming back to the album, most of the songs
here are mid-tempo ballads and their styles vary from ballads to
jazz to acoustic. A few upbeat and light rock tracks are
interspersed throughout to liven up the album.
The first single "Oh Lonely
Lovers" is a slow sentimental number composed by Wang Yi
Long and written by Jonathan Lee. It aptly depicts the
lonely and heart-aching love souls living in the modern world
today.
On the other hand, the second single
"Couldn't Care Less" is a lively band rock song which
will no doubt get you tapping on your feet on the first listen.
While most of the works here contain the
inputs of Jonathan Lee, there are a few other prominent
song-writers chipping in such as Tanya (she composed a track
cutely called "Fluffy"), Xue Zhong Ming,
ex-Black Box member Zhang Jia Tian and China musician Xiao Ke
(the same guy who wrote Elva's "Best Known Stranger"
or "Zui Shou Xi De Mo Sheng Ren").

CECILIA CHEUNG (CECILIA
CHEUNG) (WHAT'S MUSIC) (OCT00)
|
叱吒華人香江樂壇個性新女聲
首張國語同名專輯
|
Amidst recent negative reports that Cecilia
Cheung (or Zhang Bo Zhi) exhibited negative working attitude as
well as feigning illness during her promotion stint in Taiwan,
she has released her debut Mandarin album.
More than five producers are roped in to
make this album, including Benjamin Lin Ming Yang, Hong Kong
producer Alex San, Hong Kong singer Eddie Ng or Wu Guo Jing,
Wang Zhi Ping, arranger Zhong Xing Ming and background vocalist
Chen Xiu Zhu.
The first single "Ready For Love"
is a funky dance track composed and written by (surprise,
surprise) Li Fei Hui. Personally I thought that the song
is not a sound choice to introduce her to Taiwan listeners who
are more inclined to ballads and lighter pop
material.
The second single is the mid-tempo
jazz-rock number "How Can One Be So Silly" composed
and written by Wu Xu Wen.
Other note-worthy mentions : one of the
songs "Let's Chat Some Other Day" is a Mandarin cover
of Cecilia's own Cantonese track "Travel By Oneself"
composed and co-produced by Nicholas Tse; the album also
includes two different music-arranged versions of the
previously-released theme hit "Star/Heart Words" (or
Xing Yu Xin Yuan) taken from her movie "Star Wish"
co-starring Richie Ren.
Finally, her album image cum cover art
director is none other than model Fei Qi (or Qi Qi), better
known as the wife of Hong Kong actor Simon Yam (or Ren Da Hua).

There are two new songs here and both are

Hong Kong song writer who gave us Faye Wong's hit "Red
Bean" or "Hong Dou") and written by Li An Xiu.
Twelve compilation songs are enclosed,
including his debut hit "Don't Be Silly" (or Ni Bie
Sha Le) sung with Andy Lau, "Saving Love" (or Qiang
