Welcome to The Lady's Inn

Tales of Bretonnian Deeds and Misdeeds

The door squeaks closed as you walk into the noisy but merry inn. Happy faces lighted in the yellowish light of swaying lamps dangling from the inn's wooden beams fill the room.

You take a seat next to the fireplace and order a tankard of wine. Nearby, a bard starts to strum on his baliset, and recites a ballad which tells of valiant deeds carried out by the Bretonnian Knights and commoners in defending their land. The bard also tells of unfortunate misdeeds which befell the heroes. A veteran warrior yourself, you smile at the obvious exaggerations of the bard, but enjoy the stories nonetheless...

StegadonSlayers

A tale tells of 10 valiant Grail Knights fighting beside their Duke in defending their land from a Lizardmen invasion. Galloping behind their Hippogriff-borne Duke, the Grail Knights spot a terrible Stegadon threatening their lord's flank as he charged the enemy general and his royal guards. Although they wished to charge the enemy guards and fight alongside their Duke, the Grail Knight Champion and Leader thought better to defend the Hipogriff's hide from the three-pronged menace. Thus they charged the horrible monster, oblivious to its terror-causing appearance and slayed the behemoth.

Their mistake was in misjudging the skink stegadon-riders who held the Grail Knights long enough to allow the Temple Guards to defeat their Duke and his cousin, a heroic Paladin and run out of their charge range. Seeing this, the Grail Knight focused upon a unit of 4 beastly Kroxigors who were causing havoc against a unitof Knights Errant who were being aided by the BSB. The Grail Knights charged the Kroxigor's flank, killed one of the brutes - the rest broke and were destroyed in the ensuing pursuit. Right in front of them was now another stegadon who had earlier on scared off the army's two damsels. The Grail Knights lowered their lances once more and charged the triceratopic stegadon who lay for dead after impact.

The Grail Knights thus earn the title of StegadonSlayers.

FlameWing's Sacrifice

The next tale tells of Duke Antoine and his HippoGriff mount, Flamewing, who were the target of 4 Spear Chukkas in the first turn of combat killing 3 of the monster's 4 wounds. To top it all, a couple of Chariots and a Giant were heading their way

Duke Antoine had two options: fly for cover behind the woods and stay there, or charge into the enemy knowing death sure followed. At such an early stage of the game, valor was asked for in the face of the enormous Goblin army that was approaching. Thus the Duke chose the latter valiant choice. Now, who to charge? Charging a chariot could provide a win for the Duke but restraining or choosing pursuit would leave him out in the open asking for more weapon fire. Thus the General chose the Giant and charged the lumbering humanoid. The giant suffered wounds, with 2 remaining. In his turn, the giant chose to thump with club the effacing HippoGriff. This means taking an Initiative Test on 2D6 getting less or equal to the lowest initiative between mount and rider. The Hippogriff had lowest - 4. The first die brought a 1. The second a 2. PASSED! In the next round, the giant fell to the Duke's Sword of Heroes but the remaining chariot's flank charge (the other had fled in terror) killed Flamewing, the beloved HippoGriff.

Flamewing shall forever be known as FlameWing the Swift - for managing to avoid the Giant's Club with an initiative test.

The Spear of Destiny

The bard takes us to a battlefield where Men, Horses and HippoGriff fight Orcs , Goblins and Wolves. All is stuck in the middle of the field as Knights fight against the Black Orcs' front, whilst the Duke on Hippogriff damages the Black Orcs' rear, whilst Goblin wolf riders charge the Hippogriff's rear. The forces are balanced and none break ranks for 4 whole combat turns. Until...

A unit of Mounted Squires barely makes it around a unit of fleeing Night Goblins and reaches the Black Orcs' flank with just one spear - but just enough to topple the combat in the Bretonnians favor causing the Greenskins to flee and be destroyed int he ensuing pursuit.

The bard tells us that on that day, not the lance but the spear was the harbringer of destiny. Thus, the Spear of Destiny

TrollSlayerSlayers

The bard reminds us that on another day, the squires made the day for the Bretonnian Army. That time they were trying to win back a fort from the Dwarves. On the outermost frontline, a unit of 20 TrollSlayers proved to be a tough bone to chew.

But thanks to the squires' shooting from mounts or on foot and to the coordinated charge of Grail Knights, Knights of the Realm and last but not least a flank charge by spear-sporting mounted squires, killed all the orangey dwarves outright on the first charge.

Although the Knights killed most of the dwarves, they would've beenheld up for another round or two had not the squires picked them off with their accurate shooting and just-in-time flank charge. Thus they earn the title, TrollSlayerSlayers

The bard stops to take a sip from his tankard and eyes you admiringly. Then he raises his tankard and makes a toast to your past battles...

CannonBall Toad

The bard smiles as he recites the tale of when an enemy Slann Mage, a powerful wizard who had seen better days, tried to cast a spell on the Duke d'Artois, but instead, the spell cast the Mage at the Duke, who, riding atop his HippoGriff was sheltered from the hit because the HippoGriff took the full brunt of the damage.

Luckily, The Duke was wearing the Dragon's Claw talisman which provided a magical save for the mount as well. Thus the episode ended well for both Mage and HippoGriff when both were magically saved from the S10 hit.

Lady Jessica of the Amulet

The bard then switched to highlight feats made by female Bretonnian sorceresses. He mentioned when the Lady Jessica, supporting an army of Bretonnian warriors fighting against a greenskin incursion, faced death in the face when she was attacked by the greenskin General Toofless. Her Black Amulet, a family heirloom, saved her from certain death by rebounding the wounds upon the general, The end saw the Lady unharmed whilst Toofless lay dead on the battlefield. The bard highlighted the fact that the LAdy Jessica was the only Bretonnian left alive on the battlefield at the end of the day
