Comments: Wet and windy can best describe the weather here in September.
The month opened up with Hurricane Edouard skirting the area. Wind gusts
to 44 mph and precip. total of 2.14" were recorded here on the 2nd.
Nantucket reported a gust to 90 mph, Martha' Vineyard-64 mph, Falmouth
-69 mph, and New Bedford-51 mph...On the 8th the remnants of Hurricane Fran
dumped 3.79" of rain here...On the 17th-18th the remnants/redevelopment
of Hurricane Fausto soaked us with another 3.58" of rain with wind gusts to
27 mph...The 1996 yearly precip. total of 43.36" already surpasses the
1995 total of 41.63"...Temperatures were rather moderate. No daily records
were set for the entire month.
Correction: In the the summary for August I reported the average temper-
ature for the summer season as being 2.2 deg. below normal. The summer
season actually averaged 1.2 deg below normal.
