Spring Clean Up to begin

BRISTOL -- The Beautification Committee of the Greater Bristol Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its Spring Clean Up Day for Saturday, May 1.

The Spring Clean Up Day Committee, led by Eileen McNulty, city youth services director, will be working with the Pequabuck River Watershed Association.

The collection will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Barnes Group parking lot where routes will be assigned and coffee and donuts served.

Collected litter will be taken to the city's landfill area.

An organizational meeting of participating groups will be held 4 p.m. April 28 at the Greater Bristol Chamber of Commerce, 10 Main St.

Volunteers will be eligible for door prizes.

Adult education classes scheduled

BRISTOL -- A lunchtime learning opportunity is being served up by the Bristol Public Schools Department of Adult Education and the Greater Bristol Chamber of Commerce.

The courses planned for the spring are adult basic education in reading, adult basic education in mathematics, and English as a second language - basic skills.

The courses are designed to promote life-long learning and to encourage pursuit of a Graduate Equivalency Diploma.

Cost will be $25 per person and the courses will be from 1:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information, contact the chamber at 584-4718.
