2 Wheels Rotating Enigma

What we know: Imagine wheel A, with diameter x, rolling around fixed wheel B, with diameter 2x.

Enigma: How many revolutions about its own axis will wheel A make in roling once around wheel B?


Solution: 3 revolutions. Since Wheel A has half the diameter of B, this produces two rotations with respect to B. The rotation itself adds a third rotation with respect to the observer from above. A total of 3 revolutions
