• June 04 00. EARTH-QUAKE! Done a quick sky scanning using my in-door Sat setup. Within seconds of looking at the b/w monitor I detected a flashing satellite before I had a chance to hook up my video camera. This is a slow 'mover' so I can affort to move my FOV lens around to fix my bearing and get back to it. Using SkyAtlas 2000, I managed to get a position fix of Dec -53 RA 14hr 50min, passing below Star marked 'B' (near object H018)on local time 9:37:15pm. Measured a 15 periods of 1 min 15.994 sec or 5.062 period. Assymetric flash of mag+6.5?>+8.0. Gradual increase of brightness and once reach max drop rapidly. Prelim sat ID found a match of sat# 74089Q. Need second opionion. Not found in ppas database. Then just passed midnight 12:35am observed dressing table mirror was swaying. Curious, i got out of bed, held the mirror to steady it and got back to bed. I still observe the gentle swaying. Perplexed but unruffled I got back to sleep! The next morning news reported a 7.9 earthquake in Summatra. The SW origin of the epic centre might explain the swaying since the mirror plane is East-West and was 'riding' with the seismic 'waves'. The rest of the household didn't feel a thing.
  • June 8 00. Scanned the sky with watec set up. Seen two sats. Positon noted and one swift meteor burning up 8:35:45? Follow a jet plane and in watec low light can even see the contrail clearly. 5AH gel battery gone flat.
  • June10 00. Ordered two additional watec-902Hs for my Deep-sky meteor detection system. Also on order is a f/1.3 50mm 'cs' lens. Notice some 'strange' circulating lights outside my windows. Looks like the head-light of a distant cars or intense beam got reflected in the clouds. Another source of unwanted light pollution?? However this provided another new 'entertainment' for my kids.
  • June 11 00. Impromptu Stargaze Session. Around 11:36?pm despite a cloudy sky with Moon at Zenith, saw a 10-15 degree 'electric blue' meteor streaking away (4 o'clock position) from an 'upright' Scorpion. This is the my 2nd case of a 'flare'-like meteor 'head' seen. Estimate magnitude of the 'head' is -2 or brighter with a LM2+ sky. Partial trail was also seen. I have a wonderful time looking through Vincent's brand-new 8" f/6 Porta-ball. We saw Omega Centauri resolved into a ball of stars at x480, M17 condensed globular cluster, open cluster in Sco( NGC6231), M7(Sco), splitted double in alpha Centauri. Not forgetting a crisp view of our own satellite-moon. I nicked name Copernicus 'Kueh lapis' with its concentric circular rings/layers of crater and radial 'lines'. (Kelvin, Remus, Vincent and myself..what happen to Lin?). Navigation is easy by nudging the scope , grabbing the edge of the upper open tube. This is a great neat visual scope. It defintely lives up to its name as a 'portable' scope. It is affortable too! (for a price equivalent to a top-end pcs). Who say DSO is beyond your reach in S'pore? Wonder how portable is the 10"...?
  • Jun 15 - Did a quick scanning at Crux. Observed three sats passing through 5 degree FOV all within minutes of each other. The interesting sat is Nato 3D Rk that 'sliced' through Jewel Box on a SE direction. My unknown 'X' is still there but beyond the reach of the 100mm lens.(bad sky)
  • Jun 18 - My 2nd and 3rd Watec 902H arrived on 6/16 via UPS. First light tonite for my "Trio-Watec902H-70mm" f/1.8 setup. Also tested the newly bought faster 50mm f/1.3. This lens looks promising - the field is wider ( from 5 to 7 degree) and still I can see stars to mag +8.0. The 15" high res monitor is too small for a quad-added views. Will attempt viewing on a 29" TV screen.
  • Jun 19 - Taking adavantage of a break in the cloud the late rising moon, did a quick scan at Crux. LM of the system is +9.10. My unknown 'X' is still there both with the 75mm and the 20-100mm zoom. Still puzzle.
