Gentoos are the most timid of all penguins. They have a long, carrot-red bill with yellow and
orange feet. They weigh between 12.1 to 13.7 pounds and stands at 27.9 to 31.9 inches tall.
Gentoo penguins have a wide white strap across the tops of their heads. Gentoo's breed on
many sub-Antarctic Islands from spring to autumn. Nests are usually made up of a circulare pile
of stones. Two eggs are laid. The eggs hatch after 34 to 36 days. The chicks remain in the nests
for about 30 days. The chicks finally go out on their own when they are between 80 to 100 days
old. Gentoo's migrate back to where they were born to breed. Their predators are: brown skuas,
sheathbills, giant petrels, leopard seals, and sea lions.
