CRATER
The Cup
(Cra)


Generalities: it is a small constellation situated in the southern sky, but at latitudes not too far from the celestial equator. It is in a zone of sky deprived of bright stars. The transit at midnight takes place in March.

Origins and mythology: from the mythological point of view it is identified with the cup of  god Bacchus. According to other traditions it would represent the wine glass of  god Apollo.

Stars: the Cup is a constellation made up of weak stars. The  brightest one has magnitude 3.8 and it is the only under magnitude 4. This star is  yellow-orange  and is 150 light-years far.

Other objects: in the Cup some weak galaxies are found, visible with amateur tools.
