Generalities: it is a southern constellation with some stars of average brightness. It transits at midnight in November.

Origins and mythology: it corresponds to male Hydra, since it traces its form .

Stars: it shows two stars under  magnitude three and a third star under magnitude 4. The brightest is beta, of magnitude 2.80, yellow color, about 20 light-years far.
