Generalities: it is a small southern constellation, not very bright. It transits  the meridian at midnight in February.

Origins and mythology: it is a constellation defined in modern times. Its original name was "Piscis volans".

Stars: the Flying Fish has four stars under  magnitude 4. The brightest has magnitude 3.6, and it is in reality a double star, whose main component  has orange color. The distance of this binary system is  75 light-years.
