WI: The Apollo moon landings were proven to have been faked

There has been a lot of discussion in the alt.alien.visitors group about the possibility of the moon landings having been faked by the US government. I tend to beleive this is yet another conspiracy theory that has gotten out of hand however what if it is true?
The arguments go like this.
Some say, "Of course we landed on the freakin' moon, I saw the footage etc" Others reply, "The film footage and photos were faked" These folks supposedly have proof... which I have yet to see or hear.
The really die hard fans of the theory say that the US did land on the moon but discovered the remains of a alien visition which they were not ready to divulge. Thus they faked the photos and footage, showed off some rocks from the trip they DID make and everyone is happy and content. No alien culture, no mass hysteria. Some of them go so far as to say that J.F.K was assassinated because of his intentions to tell the public of the possible architecture on the moon that had been viewed from Earth and some 'secret probes' they sent to the moon in the early 60's.

So. What if there really is stuff on the moon we didn't put there? Would there be mass hysteria? I think not. What would the government be trying to hide? It can actually be tied into the UFO crash at Roswell nicely as well...

An alien craft crashes at Roswell and the military releases the info to the public. Shortly thereafter they retract the news release saying they were mistaken, it was only a weather balloon. Perhaps they retracted this at the prompting of the visitors who had nothing to gain from becoming widely known to the public. They obviously don't want attention or they would just land in Central Park. If the US gov't DID find something not of this Earth on the moon, they would have to cover it up as well to keep the 'space brothers' happy. Afterwards they would fake a few more landings and basically never return so as not to get embroiled in more controversy.

Everyone loves a good conspiracy, we don't neccessarily beleive them, but they are fun to think about. David
