My partner and I are restoring a 1929 Travel Air B-4000. In the process we are converting it to a 4-D by replacing the Wright J-5 with a 1943 version of the Wright J-6 (the Wright 760-8). We currently have a good collection of Travel Air drawings (appro imately 250). We provide copies to other Travel Air owners and restorers for a fee that covers only our direct reprographic and mailing cost. We are interested in continuing to add to the collection, so if others have drawings we would be very intereste in hearing from them so that we can arrange to copy their drawings for our collection. We belong to all of the antique aircraft associations that we have been able to locate that may lead us to further drawings and are actively pursuing a request for re ease of FAA data through the legal department of the Curtiss-Wright Corporation. The storehouse of data on these old airplanes is rapidly disappearing, and the quality of the remaining data is deteriorating. The FAA microfiche was of poor quality at the time it was produced due to limitations of the technology and the lack of care of the equipment operators and time has taken a further toll. If anyone has a complete set of microfiche on any of the Travel Air or Curtiss-Wright Travel Air Division type certificates we would like to contact them with the intention of arranging to make reproduceable copies of the material. ruth elder was a native of anniston. she was truly a pioneer in aviation but i don't see her mentioneed very much,for example as on the "DISTINQUISHED WOMEN OF PAST AND FUTURE". Our local library has a wealth of material on her, including her own story of her exciting flight on Oct.27, 1927 which was the longest flight over water at that time and that includes the lindberg flight. Her part in eary aviation history has not had it's proper place, can it be corrected ?
