The Ka-226 helicopter is developed as a two-engine modification of a single engine Ka-126 model. It retains the main design advantages of its predecessors i.e. carrier platform configuration permitting to mount detachable equipment, co-axial main rotor configuration; small size. This helicopter features the same technical concepts used on Ka-26 and Ka-126 models that have demonstrated their high reliability. And at the same time new concepts implemented in its design permit to considerably improve its flight performance i.e. a new main rotor system demonstrating the highest efficiency ratio among light helicopter, highness main rotor hubs, new glass/carbon blades. It is also possible to equip the Ka-226 with Allison 250-C20R engines providing for more power and better economic efficiency as compared with the C20B model. It would permit to improve the helicopter flight performance with regard to fuel efficiency, service/hover ceiling, to expand the take-off altitude/temperature performance for the max. take-off weight and to increase the single engine flight safety. The helicopter can also transport underslung cargo of up to 1,300 kg weight and operate as a crane helicopter for construction-installation work. |
