Potentilla simplex - Common Cinquefoil
CinquefoilI have unfortunately not been able to find much information on this plant from the books in my possession so forgive me if this description is a tad dry. Potentilla means "little powerful one" which may hint at medicinal uses. It has many common relatives such as Silverweed (P. anserina) with its edible root and Canadian Dwarf Cinquefoil (P. canadensis) It propagates mostly by runners like its close cousin the Strawberry. Its presence is indicative of impoverished soil.
Family: Rose (Rosaceae)
