History: 13-15 december of 1984 a "Communist Unity Congress"
was held in Madrid. Partido Comunista de
España Unificado (PCEU, Unified Communist Party of Spain), el
Movimiento de Recuperación del PCE (MRPCE, Movemento for the Recuperation
of the PCE), el Movimiento para la Recuperación y Unificación
del PCE (MRUPCE, Movement for the Recuperation and Unification of the PCE),
Candidatura Comunista (CC, Communist Candidature) and some minor groups
unified themselves, thus creating Partido Comunista (later PCPE). All these
groups had surged from splits from the PCE during the 70's and 80's. Quickly
after the foundation the party was reconginzed by some other CPs, such
as the CPSU and other statebearing Eastern European CPs. The party was
formed by those who were against Santiago Carillo's eurocommunist line
in the PCE. The catalan referent of PCPE was initially PCC, but PCC later
broke with PCPE.
PCPE participated in Izquierda Unida initially, but later they left this formation.
