Statistics drawn from our Hate Crimes Survey

Harassment (112 examples so far) Web Sites (31 examples so far)

Education (13 examples so far) Court Bias (8 examples so far) Media Bias (27 examples so far)

To compare:
In 1993, 83 hate crimes against "other" religions, multi-religious groups, atheists, and agnostics, were reported by the FBI. In 1995, 145 total were reported by the FBI.
The statistics compiled here do not include hate crimes against atheists and agnostics, just Pagans.

"The World Christian Encyclopedia estimate[d] 6 million Americans profess to be witches and engage in practices like these. They are a sub-group of over 10 million persons the encyclopedia says call themselves pagans, who practice "primitive" religions such as Druidism, Odin worship and Native American shamanism."

"Witchcraft is not accepted as a valid minority religion by most people in the United States, and many of those I interviewed told me of persecution they had encountered once they were identified as [Pagans]. There were stories of firings from jobs, of children taken away from parents and placed in the custody of others, of arrests for practicing divination. There were stories of stones thrown through windows, and several tales of people who moved away from an area after fundamentalist groups decided to take literally the injunction: 'Thou shall not suffer a witch to live.'"
