PATRIOTIC PARTY
.
The Patriotic Party was an ultra-nationalist party which saw itself as "protecting and advancing the Lendian race". It arose in the period surrounding the Lendian Empire's collapse, which the party blamed on "traitors and cowards". It briefly held one seat in the Senate, but soon merged into the Nationalist Party.

Colour and Emblem

The official colour of the Nationalist Party was a dark crimson. Its symbol was a stylised eagle.

The party's official name in Lendian was "lo Partido Gendano".

Quote

"We Lendians are one of the great cultures of the world, but now we are under attack. Our heritage, our way of life, and our very survival are threatened, and we will only be saved when we place the good of the nation comes above all other concerns."

History of the Party

The Patriotic Party grew out of the Patriotic Association, an organisation founded in 292 AP. It was a reaction to increasing separatist sentiment in the Lendian Empire's outer provinces, which the Patriotic Association saw as an attempt to undermine "the greatness of the Lendian people". It drew particular support from ethnic Lendians living in the outer provinces, who did not want to find themselves living as a minority group in an independent, non-Lendian country. In 294 AP, the Patriotic Association joined with several other groups (most notably the Nationalists) to found the Loyalist Party, which was intended to be a united front against the Empire's dissolution. The head of the Patriotic Association, Jaime Lanto, was elected to the Senate as a Loyalist Party candidate.

The Loyalist Party did not achieve its goals, however, and fighting between its various components resulted in its collapse in 301 AP. Members of the original Patriotic Association, led by Lanto, moved to establish their own Patriotic Party, focused around Lanto's seat in the Senate. Lanto was re-elected in 302 AP, but the party did not win any further seats, prompting debate over its future. Lanto came to the conclusion that the Patriotic Party should merge into the Nationalists (who had also reasserted their independence when the Loyalist Party collapsed), but this was rejected by radicals in the party who considered the Nationalists "too soft". Eventually, the party voted to accept Lanto's recommendation to merge, although a large number of party members resigned rather than accept this. There are occasionally calls a new party based on the Patriots, but as yet, nothing has eventuated.
