UTOPIAN PARTY
The Utopian Party was a political party based primarily on pacifism. It strongly opposed the existence of the military, and was closely involved in protests against involvement in foreign wars. It also opposed the death penalty, and has strong positions on civil rights. It eventually merged with the Ecological Party to form the Ecotopian Party.

Quote

"Nobody who looks around them with an unbiased mind can doubt that we live in a world of problems - war, crime, disease, greed, and anger can be found everywhere. The movement to build a better world for ourselves and our children is not merely a noble dream - if humanity is to survive, it is a necessity."

History of the Party
![]()
The Utopian Party was founded in 236 AP, making it one of the older parties, and (as part of the Ecotopians) the fourth oldest party still active. It was established in response to the growing militarism of the time, which saw the newly crowned Emperor Carigo taking a hawkish stance on relations with neighbouring countries. The Empire became involved in a number of wars, which eventually resulted in the annexation of significant amounts of territory. The Utopian Party was a major component of the protest movement that arose in response, although it was legally barred from contesting elections due to authorities deeming it subversive. By 253 AP, when Carigo's power was reduced and the ban was lifted, the party's support had dwindled, and it won only two seats in the 255 AP election.
The party continued to hold a small number of seats until the outbreak of war in Percevejan, an imperial territory, in the late 280s. The anti-war movement that arose in response propelled the Utopian Party to eight seats, more than twice what it had held before. At the same time, the Utopians began to work more closely with the Ecological Party, which shared much of its support base with the Utopians. It was proposed that the two should merge, and despite the misgivings of the party leaders (who were worried about dilution of their message) a slight majority of party members supported the union. The new group was named the Ecotopian Party, combining the two names.
