Your Own Web Site in Four Easy Steps!!

Step One:
The first thing I suggest you do is download an HTML editor. This is a small program that helps you create web pages. I use this editor:

Step Two:
Next, you need to learn the HTML codes to put in your pages. It's really not all that difficult to learn. HTML Goodies is the BEST site I have found which teaches HTML from start to finish. Honestly, this is the only tutorial site I ever needed to use. Give Dr. Joe Burns at HTML Goodies a visit. Start at step one of his tutorial. Note: You can skip this step if you go to Step Three and click on one of the free homepage hosting service links. You can create homepages through these services even if you don't know HTML.

Step Three:
Now you need to publish your site somewhere so people can visit it on the internet. There are a few free homepage hosting services out there, which even offer simple homepage design. So even if you don't know how HTML works (or if you don't have time to learn it), a homepage "wizard" asks you a bunch of questions (like color, font, etc.) and "poof" there's your homepage - all nicely designed and formatted for you.

GeoCities

Tripod: Another free homepage hosting service. I don't know too much about this place. I assume it also has advertising restrictions.

Angelfire: A free homepage hosting service which offers you much less space than GeoCities. A nice place to start if you have a small homepage.

The biggest drawback of all of these free hosting sites is that some search engines (including Infoseek) refuse to allow submissions of their free homepages. The best way to deal with this problem is to forget a free hosting site, and instead pay a little bit of money each month to have your site hosted.

Step Four:
When you're done publishing your homepage at your new web site, you should actively promote your site. The two businesses below offer free search engine submissions for you. It's cheap (FREE!!) and quick. My two favorites are Submit It! and Register It.
