 1702Battle of Vigo Bay. Combined British-Dutch fleet entered Vigo harbor and defeated French-Spanish fleet, destroying 11 ships, capturing 10 warships and 11 merchantmen loaded with silver.
 1828Turkish garrison of Varna surrendered to the Russians after a spirited three-month defense.
