Warning: Starting with this movement of Ferranti's Carnival of Venice may
cause terminal frustration!
Fixes, modifications and comments (M=Measure; p=Place in measure; s=String):
M12 quintuplet did not have a "5" in the original. "5" added here.
M16p1-12 original showed 64th-note beam. Changed to 32nd-note beam here.
M39 original had "pandi" printed (in modern type) below the first run of
64th-notes. Changed back to "pouce et index" here. Play the run with p, i.
M35p10 original shows "A" above the staff. Presumed here to be an /\ accent
symbol misread by the engraver. But maybe it means the 5th string, that
is, the string that is ordinarily tuned to A. (The note is assigned to
the 4th string here.)
The glissando dash is slanted downward toward the note at m20p6s1, m24p5s1.
The original shows "3" over the triplets only in a few places. A few more
have been added here to help readability.
IMPORTANT!!! RHYTHM ELEMENTS TO BE HAND-CORRECTED!!!
These 16th-note pairs must be changed to dotted 16th/32nd-note pairs:
M8 last pair in the cadenza.
M19 p11-12, p13-14.
M20 p10-11.
M25 p11-12.
M40 pair just before the run of 16th-note triplets.
These 32nd-note pairs must be changed to dotted 32nd/64th-note pairs:
M10 p3-4.
M13 p3-4.

M38 slur spans first 5 notes after the cadenza.
M40 p4-6s5, p6s5-p13s1, and similar overlapping slurs for the next 4
arpeggios. Following the arpeggios, slurs connect the first 2 notes
of each 16th-note triplet to the end of the measure.
Fermatas at:
M8 p1 and the harmonic 4 places from the end.
M20 p5.
M22 p1 and the last note of the cadenza.
M38 p1.
M40 p1.
The chords in m39 each have a slanted dash / within the column of notes.
Fiset says this means to "roll the chord with the thumb." If that is all
it means, then the location of the dash within the stack of notes is not
important, but here are the locations, anyway:
Chord 1: between the 3rd and 4th string notes.
Chord 2: between the 4th and 5th string notes.
Chord 3: between the 1st and 2nd string notes.
Chord 4: between the 4th and 5th string notes.
Take a moment to fill out the 16th- and 32nd-note beams.
Explanation of symbols:
^ (arrowhead) = arpeggiation. Original shows a wavy vertical line to the
left of the chord. For a neater appearance, re-draw the ^ arrowhead
right at the top of the stem.
z = rest. Fill in to make a solid block.
. (within the tablature) = endpoint of the note sounding on that string.
_ (above the rhythm symbols) = stress. Ferranti uses /\ in the original.
cresc. = crescendo. Ferranti uses the graphic small angle opening to the
right. Where necessary here, the word "crescendo" is stretched out to
indicate the extent of the original graphic.
cdza. = cadenza. Ferranti uses small notes. Curly brackets { } are used here
to show where the cadenza begins and ends.
Fret numbers without stems represent grace notes.
