I often find myself wondering why many Americans spend so much of their time trying to pass laws making English our national language! What's the big deal? You could ask just about anyone from Great Britan and they would tell you... we don't speak English in this country! We speak American! Our English is as far removed from the language spoken by the British as Mexican is to the people of Spain. I remember some of my Hispanic speaking friends from High School who thought they could get an easy grade by taking a course in Spanish. Boy, were they ever wrong! I suggest, that instead of wasting all this time trying to pass a law making English our national language, we should pass one declaring our true language... American!
My loyalties are to God, my family and my country... in that order. Another person, much more famous than I, who seemed to feel this way was the late John Wayne. My husband has to be one of "The Duke's" all-time biggest fans. I think he's seen nearly every movie Mr. Wayne was ever in... and owns at least half of them on video! The man was truly one of the best to ever come out of Hollywood. His love of God, family and country was evident throughout his illustrious career. Along with the videos, my husband has a rare copy of, to the best of my knowledge, the only record Mr. Wayne ever made. Released in 1973, it was entitled, "America, Why I Love Her". Below, you'll find a link to a page, dedicated to John Wayne, which has additional links to sites honoring this great American icon.
