A Lebanese army bus carrying prisoners from a Syrian intelligence base in Damascus crosses the Lebanese-Syrian border at Masnaa in eastern Lebanon's Bekaa valley Monday Dec. 11, 2000. Syria on Monday handed over 46 Lebanese and 8 Palestinian prisoners to Lebanese authorities. The transfer followed an agreement reached last week by President Emile Lahoud and Syrian President Bashar Assad. Two buses carrying the freed detainees rolled across the rain-swept border at high speed at 8.15pm, escorted by seven Lebanese Army jeeps, their sirens wailing. Photographers could see passengers handcuffed and blindfolded as the vehicles maneuvered their way past the border checkpoint and down the road to Chtaura.
