- Lebanon's highest Moslem Sunni authority Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Kabbani (L) talks with George Carey (R) the Archbishop of Canterbury in Britain, during the opening of the Islamic-Christian national dialogue committee, at Beirut's Dar al Fatwa February 2. Carey who is on a three-day visit to Lebanon, held talks with Lebanese leaders about achieving peace despite the growing tension in the region.

Prime Minister Selim al-Hoss of Lebanon signs a book of condolences for Jordanian King Hussein at the Jordanian embassy in east Beirut February 9. Lebanon's newspapers criticized the government for what they said the low representation of Lebanon in the state funeral of King Hussein on February 8. Deputy Prime Minister Michel Mur took part in the event.

Syrian workers and intelligence agents of Syria's occupation army cheer for Syrian President Hafez al-Assad in front of polling boxes in Beirut February 10. Syria set up polling stations throughout Lebanon to allow its nationals to vote in the presidential referendum which Assad, the only candidate, is expected to win and become president for a fifth seven-year term. Syria set up polling stations throughout Lebanon to allow its nationals to vote in the presidential referundom which Assad, the only candidate, is expected to win easily.

Kurdish supporters of Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan chant slogans against Turkey during a demonstration held in Beirut February 19. About 3,000 chanting Kurds marched through the heart of Beirut to parliament to protest against Turkey's abduction of Ocalan from Kenya.

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud (L) meets with Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammad Saeed al-Sahaf (R) at the presidential palace in Beirut, February 22. Al Sahaf was snubbed by the speaker of parliament and attacked by a parliamentary committee on Monday because of the assassination of a Shi'ite ayatollah in Iraq.

Lebanese men are blocked by a fence as they attempt to transport a corpse for burial in the village of Arnoun Feb 24 following Israel's annexing of the village. The village bordering Israel's south Lebanon occupation zone has borne the brunt of the Jewish state's 21-year- old presence and attempts by Hizbollah guerrillas to end it.
