My Stories------I am a "boomer". Born
in the late 50's. A child of the television age.
My mother is a woman who was far ahead of her time in terms of "feminist" survival. She was a single parent (she did have
support, and not just financial from my dad, but they did
not live together as husband & wife. In fact they never
did take that walk down the aisle; but we'll get more into
that later), long before it was fashionable. She was a
mother who worked outside the home long before most women
would even think of making that choice much less do it.
She did not need Hillary, or anyone else to tell her it
'takes a village'. She fully appreciated the
value, neccessity, and strength of a loving extended
family.
As
Paul Harvey
would say I am giving you this
"back story" so that you may understand its import to me
and how it relates to the spirit of this page. So, anyway,
when mother was at work, I the youngest of 4 (2 sisters 1
brother & me), was cared for by mother's sister Clarice,
aunt "tee" as we used to call her,and our nextdoor
neighbors the Caldwells. The Caldwells were like family to
us. We called the senior woman 'grandma' (to this day I do
not know her given name), and her daughter Miss Elsie, or
more usually 'aunt'Elsie.
I am a child of the
south, and this was a time when "African-Americans" referred
to themselves as "colored". In fact on my birth
certificate under racial description, "colored" is the word
that is used. Today I still affectionately refer to myself
as a "colored child". You ntozake
shange admirers
out there know what I'm talking about don't you?
From my pop's side, part Blackfoot Nation---I affectionately refer to that part of my heritage as 'injun'---hey i'm never going to be described as politically correct {and wouldn't want to be}.
The Caldwells were very religious folk. God fearing, bible
reading, honest, and I and my family loved them dearly.
'Aunt'Elsie always made sure my days were full of
activity, but one of my favorite times of the day was when
she would look at her watch and say "oh my, we'd better
hurry,it's almost time for m'stories". By her 'stories'
she of course meant the day's soap operas. Her favorites
were
"Edge of Night,"Secret
Storm", and"
General Hospital". I think for her and her mother, watching the soaps was sort of a guilty pleasure. And the thing I liked best about that time of day was that
she made it seem almost sacred. It was an activity that
had an almost ritualistic quality to it. And so it is with fond recollection, and respect that I dedicate this page to
those times.
This page will be a forum for what I
now consider my stories:
"All My Children"
,
and
"One Life to Live".
It will give reviews of story lines,
assess
the various characters, etc., and have commentary on the so
called network reviewers of 'daytime drama'. One such
reviewer, and loving encouragement from my honey is the
second inspiration for this page.
I recently read
a review of the 'Ryan & Braden Lavery' storyline
on
"All My
Children", and I
couldn't help but wonder
if
the reviewer had even bothered to watch the show herself.
It seemed that she had not, and instead had had someone
else explain the plot to her, which if they got the story
right, she most definitely did not. I thought, I know soap
plots can sometimes be a bit convoluted, but this dame has
mangled things to the point where I'm confused, and I
wasn't before I read her column. I watch this soap
everyday so I (and any other faithful viewer) couldn't help
but know she'd gotten it 'bassakwards'.
So if you,
like I, were looking for a place other than the
networks,"the 4th estate",or chatrooms to experience a
simpatico point of view, you are most graciously welcome to
seek sanctuary here. I hope you enjoy what you find.
Your comments on the site will be greatly appreciated and

arriving soon. Until
then...
Monday 10~16~00, again I find myself needing to apologize for not having updated this page for far too long. What can I say, things came up, but I promise I will try to do better. If only someone would come up with a 36 hr day. Since that's not likely to happen I've decided to skew my reviewing of 'm stories, the same way that I view them from the good old VCR. On all of these, "AMC", "OLTL", and "GH", any storyline I would fastforward through the same as I would a commercial, unless it really grabbed my attention visually or through dialogue, or subject, it would signal (for me at least) either the storyline, character, script, or some intangible were not compelling enough for me to be interested in enough to suffer through since that fast forward button is so vital when you just can't stomach one more scene of "Chloe" having psychic dreams ( enough already we get it ), or "Emily" bonding with her kidnapper "Xander" ( I know it's a 'soap' but you can entertain viewers without insulting them can't you, I mean I've heard of 'Stockholm syndrome' but c'mon kids!!) Yikes both those examples are from "GH", better look out you guys "AMC" & "OLTL" have you lagging in a few areas. "OLTL"'s scripts have been really good lately. As a result I am happy to announce the addition of a new feature: wavs of some of the juicier bits. For example, the Monday 10~2~00 "OLTL" scenes with "RJ" and "Chris" were choice. We are talking major smackdown quality. You like? Of course you do darling. Thank you "OLTL" scripters. This is what keeps viewers coming back for more. And besides good scripts, your storylines are kickin' too. Who do I need to know about first: "Blair & Max" "Roseanne, Sophia, & Antonio" "Vicki & Ben" hell even "Joey Buchanan" is interesting lately :-) And of course bringing "Todd" back, well there are no words :-)
On the "AMC" front aren't "Greenly" & "Leo" so right for each other. Thank heavens it didn't turn out to be "Leo" & "Becca". It's not that I don't like "Becca" so much as I prefer "Greenly", and I'm happy the powers that be at "AMC" thought these two were a better match. My favorite thing(s) about these two are: their brutally honest assessment of their relationship; started out just good hot sex, and now it's good hot sex and that Love thang. MMM Good. I am still a few weeks behind in viewing time, as I'm writing this, today's date is Thursday 10-19-00, but I am currently viewing Tuesday 10-10-00 but I am making a sincere effort to get current so thanks for bearing with me folks. O K I must confess my desire to get current isn't just for the sake of keeping the page on the same dates as the episodes airing, but I can't wait to see "Erika's" reaction to "Bianca's" coming out. I suspect it will be something along the lines of her thinking "Bianca" is having a nervous breakdown as a result of "Travis'" death. Poor "Bianca", she'll really be missing her dad then. Again thank goodness she has "Leo" as friend and buffer. Who would have guessed, "Leo" as the calm in someone else's stormy life.
