Guiseppe "Joe the Boss" Masseria
Boss: 1921-31
A top crime boss of New York in the 1920s, he lost the Castellammarese War fought against Salvatore Maranzano and his minions. Shot to death at Coney Island by Bugsy Seigel, Vito Genovese, Joe Adonis, and Albert Anastasia on April 15, 1931.
Charles "Lucky" Luciano
Boss:1931-46
All powerful rackets boss of New York City until Prosecutor Thomas Dewey sent him to prison in 1936. Helped out the Allied forces in invading Italy during WWII. Later paroled and deported to Italy. Died January 26, 1962.
Frank Costello
Boss:1946-57
Powerful mob boss who rose to power under William "Big Bill" Dwyer and Charles "Lucky" Luciano. His span of control in the gambling rackets extended from New York to Florida to Las Vegas. Deposed by Vito Genovese in the late 1950s.
Vito Genovese
Boss:1957-69
Don Vitone was born in Sicily in 1897. He arrived in the United States, in 1913. By the 1940s he was among the top crime bosses of New York. He was sent to prison from the help of Joe Valachi, and later died there in 1969.
"Fat Tony" Salerno
Boss:1972-87
Member of the ruling commission, and one of the most important mobsters in the U.S. today. Gambling, loan sharking, and labor union racketeering are Fat Tony's specialties. Is now imprisoned.
Vicent "The Chin" Gigante
Boss:1987-98
A soldier in the Vito Genovese family who advanced himself to a position of power. Failed to assassinate Frank Costello on May 2, 1957.
Dominick "Quiet Dom" Cirillo
Boss:1998-present
Not at all like the boss before him, "Quiet Dom" is not into the lime light at all. The family will continue to gain strength under Cirillo. This family is the largest in the nation, numbering nearly three hundred members.
