ANGLICAN CHURCH IN BARBADOS

The Anglican religion was introduced on Barbados in 1627 when the English settled it. The island was subject to the diocese of London until 1824 when a separate diocese of Barbados - which became part of the selfgoverning province of the West Indies in 1883 - was established. (1) (1) At first the diocese also included British Guiana, the Leeward Islands, Trinidad and the Windward Islands. But later new dioceses were detached from its jurisdiction : - 1842 : Antigua (for the Leeward Islands) British Guyana - 1872 : Trinidad (and Tobago) - 1878 : the Windward Islands __________________________________________________________________________________
