MACAU

At first it was the center of all catholic missionary activities in the whole Far East, but later it only covered the Portuguese dependencies of Macau and East Timor (1) and, at some times, parts of Southern China. __________________________________________________________________________________ Bishops 1845 - 1862 Jerónimo José de Mata 1804 - 1865 1862 - 1866 vacant 1866 - 1871 João Pereira do Amaral e Pimentel 1815 - 1871 - 1874 vacant 1874 - 1883 Manuel Bernardo de Sousa Ennes 1814 - 1887 1884 - 1897 Antonio Joaquim de Medeiros 1... - 1897 1897 - 1902 José Manuel de Carvalho 1844 - 1902 - 1918 João Paulino de Azevedo e Castro 1852 - 1918 1918 - 1920 vacant 1920 - 1940 José da Costa Nuñes 1880 - 1976 1940 - 1942 vacant 1942 - 1953 João de Dos Ramalho 1890 - 1958 (1) Catholic missionary activities in East Timor started in 1562.
