In 1800 the western parts of the US North West Territory - covering the present-day states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan (added in 1800 - 1805) and Wisconsin as well as parts of Minnesota - were separated to form the new US Territory of Indiana. After the creation of the Territory of Illinois in 1809 (1), the remaining part of Indiana became an US State in 1816. Indiana in the Civil War Except for a Southern raid in Jul 1863 [Commanding Officer Cavalry Corps, Army of Tennessee : BrigGen. John Hunt Morgan (1825 - 1864)], Indiana remained untouched by the war.
