Karen Z. was formally granted Cheruskian citizenship today, and has received the title "Countess." She will assume positions both as a Councilor in the Assembly and as the Minister of Information. Countess Karen has expressed her interest in Cherusken and the micronational world. When asked, King Brentus Maximus stated that he had the utmost confidence in the abilities of the Countess.

April 26, 1998

Cherusken's constitution was completed and signed into being by King Brentus Maximus today. After the signing he remarked, "This constitution will provide Cherusken with a good government. Its mixed nature ensures stability, while maintaining self-rule."

The constitution does provide for a mixed government, with aspects of republic and monarchy present. It creates the Assembly, which will be the legislative body of Cherusken. An unusual feature of Cherusken's constitution is that the head of state, the king, is also the head of the judiciary. Therefore, the king does not have an "active veto", but rather a passive one, through his role as judge of the High Court.

Despite the constitution's democratic Assembly, Cherusken will continue to be ruled by royal decree for the time being. This is because the Assembly remains constitutionally "intangible" until it is comprised of four members. At the time of this article, the king was the sole member of the Assembly, due to the constitutional provision granting him that position. It is expected that more Councilors will join the Assembly in the coming weeks.

April 22, 1998

On April 22, 1998, Cherusken was officially declared an existing microstate by Brentus Maximus, King of the Cheruskians. Although Cherusken has existed since late 1997, the official proclamation came somewhat later. "Today marks the dawn of a new era for Cherusken," noted King Brentus after reading the proclamation.

The constitution is expected to be completed and ready for royal approval soon. Although the exact contents are not known at this time, it is clear that Cherusken will continue to be ruled by royal decree until a parliament is established.
