Guinea-Bissau/Cape Verde: Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries welcomes accord between Guinea-Bissau's warring sides

Cidade da Praia, Nov. 4 (Lusa) - The co-ordinator of the Contact Group of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries, Jose Luis de Jesus, has described the recent peace accord between Guinea-Bissau's President "Nino" Vieira and rebel leader Brig. Ansumane Mane as "the mainstay of a global and final solution" to the country's crisis.

The co-ordinator made the statement in Cidade da Praia on Tuesday. De Jesus took part in the summit of the Economic Community of Western African States in Abuja, capital of Nigeria. The latest Guinea-Bissauan peace accord was signed by President and Brig. Mane in Abuja on Monday.

Guinea-Bissau: President prepares formation of national unity government

Bissau, Nov. 4 (Lusa) - Guinea-Bissauan President João Bernardo "Nino" Vieira announced in Bissau on Tuesday he would soon convene the country's "national political class" and the State Council to nominate a new prime minister and a form a government of national unity.

The announcement came in the wake of a peace agreement signed between the president and rebel leader Brig. Ansumane Mane in Abuja on Monday.

The president urged the rebel movement to participate in a "real and profound national reconciliation" process. Lusa/Fim
