Guinea-Bissau: Oppositionists Boycott Meeting with President
Bissau, Nov. 18 (Lusa) - Though boycotted by all Guinea-Bissau's opposition parties, President Nino Vieira Tuesday promised "100 percent" fulfillment of the country's peace accord.
Vieira's reaffirmation of commitment to the Nov. 2 peace agreement came after all five parliamentary opposition parties failed to show for a meeting he convened to discuss the formation of a transitional "national unity" government.
Only his ruling PAIGC party sent a representative to the meeting. Two of the opposition groups, the Bafata Movement and the Union for Change, had announced earlier that they would not participate because they did not recognize Vieira's authority to supervize the creation of the a cabinet, called for under the peace deal to oversee general elections by next March.
