Guinea-Bissau: 110 Tons of Portuguese Humanitarin Aid Arrives in Bissau

Bissau, Nov. 26 (Lusa) - A Portuguese vessel carrying 110 tons of humanitarian aid arrived here Wednesday for distribution through Catholic Church missions across Guinea-Bissau.

The shipment, which includes 11 tons of medicines, raised the amount of humanitarian help provided by Lisbon since an armed forces rebellion nearly six months ago to about 800 tons.

The aid was handed over to the Catholic diocese of Bissau, which will oversee its distribution.

Guinea-Bissau: Parliament Meets for First Time Since Fighting Erupted in June

Bissau, Nov. 26 (Lusa) - Guinea-Bissau's parliament was to meet in plenary session Thursday for the first time since a military rebellion plunged the country into civil war last June.

The national assembly, or parliament, was to discuss minor constitutional revisions, taking into account the Nov. 2 peace accord; analyze the "political-military situation" and elect its representatives to the national electoral commission.

The holding of the plenary session was cleared Thursday morning when the commander of Senegalese forces backing President Nino Vieira authorized parliamentarians to cross the frontlines.

The national assembly building is located in a Bissau suburb controlled by the insurgent forces of Brig. Ansumane Mane.

Guinea-Bissau/Portugal: Seven tonnes of humanitarian aid for Bafata

Lisbon, Nov 26 (Lusa) - A number of non-governmental Portuguese and Guinea-Bissauan organisations will send some seven metric tonnes of medicines and foodstuffs to Bafata next Monday.

Bafata is one of the worst affected areas in Guinea-Bissau's armed conflict that erupted on June 7. The two warring sides have meanwhile signed a ceasefire agreement.
