Guinea-Bissau: Parliament calls for President Vieira's immediate resignation

Bissau, Nov 30 (Lusa) - The parliament of Guinea-Bissau has passed a resolution calling for the immediate resignation of President "Nino" Vieira.

The resolution was passed on Friday. 69 deputies of the parliament's 100 members voted in favour, nine abstained. There were no votes against the resolution.

Meanwhile, Guinea-Bissau's Joint Commission has approved the structure of the future Government of National Unity. According to the decision passed by the commission in Bissau on Friday, the government will comprise 10 ministries and seven permanent secretariats.

The planned setting-up of a government of national unity is an outcome of the Abuja peace accord, which was signed by the two warring sides earlier this year, including a ceasefire arrangement. The proposed structure of the future government is a compromise between the government of President Vieira and the insurgent "Military Junta" headed by Brig. Ansumane Mane.

The present crisis erupted on June 7 when troops loyal to Brig. Mane rebelled against President Vieira's government.-Lusa
