Guinea-Bissau: Francisco Fadul appointed prime minister of Government of National Unity

Bissau, Dec 4 (Lusa) - Francisco Jose Fadul has been appointed prime minister of Guinea-Bissau's Government of National Unity by President Joao Bernardo "Nino" Vieira. The appointment was formalised by presidential decree on Thursday. The decree took immediate effect.

Guinea-Bissau's insurgent "Military Junta" has given its green light to the appointment. Meanwhile, the Joint Executive Commission overseeing the Abuja peace accord has approved the organic statutes of the Government of National Unity.

General elections are scheduled to be held in March next year.-Lusa
