Guinea-Bissau: President, Prime Minister-designate Discuss New Cabinet
Bissau, Jan. 11 (Lusa) - Guinea-Bissau President Nino Vieira and Prime Minister-designate Francisco Fadul were expected to meet Monday to put finishing touches on the country's transitional "national unity" government, various officials told Lusa.
Earlier expectations the cabinet's composition would be announced Monday were in doubt, they said, because some of Vieira's appointees had not yet agreed to join the new government.
Agreed under the country's Nov. 2 peace accord, the government, whose prime mission will be to prepare presidential and legislative elections, is composed of appointees named by both Vieira and the rebel Military Junta.
Fadul told Lusa Saturday that his transitional cabinet would only take office after the withdrawal of some 5,000 Senegalese and Guinea-Conakry troops called in by Vieira in June to face the armed forces' mutiny led by Brig. Ansumane Mane, chief of the Military Junta.
