Guinea Bissau: Foreign Troops Backing Vieira Begin Withdrawal
Dakar, Jan. 14 (Lusa) - Senegal and Guinea-Conakry have begun to withdraw their troops from Guinea-Bissau, Senegal's state radio announced Thursday.
The first units to pull out include nearly 200 Senagalese troops and 30 from Guinea-Conakry, the radio reported.
Troops from the two countries were sent to help Guinea-Bissau president Nino Vieira face down a military mutiny last June. Under the terms of the Nov. 2 Abuja accord that ended the revolt, the foreign troops backing Vieira will be replaced by a 1,450-man West African ECOMOG peace-keeping force. Lusa
