Guinea-Bissau: Portuguese Organizations Send 7.5 Tons of Aid

Lisbon, Jan. 27 (Lusa) - A group of private Portuguese aid organizations shipped 7.5 tons of humanitarian aid to Guinea-Bissau Tuesday, including a power generator, food and medicines.

Guinea-Bissau: Peacemaking Catholic Bishop Dies

Bissau, Jan. 27 (Lusa) - The peacemaking Roman Catholic Bishop of Guinea-Bissau, Dom Septímio Ferrazzeta, died at home Tuesday night, two days after returning from Rome where he underwent treatment for a fractured femur. He was 74.

The Italian missionary, who had lived in Guinea-Bissau for 43 years, had led the country's Catholic church since 1977.

In recent months Dom Ferrazzeta played a prime role in brokering a peace agreement between warring Guinean factions, after much of the country's armed forces rebelled against President Nino Vieira last June.
