Guinea-Bissau: Vieira Adviser Says Military Cooperation with Portugal Will Be Resumed
Bissau, Feb. 12 (Lusa) - A presidential adviser said Thursday that Guinea-Bissau President Nino Vieira had not ordered an end to Portuguese military cooperation programs but simply "suspended" them due to the present situation of "instability" in the country.
"I want to make clear that we want as quickly as possible, as soon as the war situation is normalized, to resume with Portugal cooperation in all fields," said Cipriano Cassama, Vieira's adviser. The Portuguese embassy in Bissau was advised by the president's office Tuesday that it was putting an end to the varied technical-military cooperation projects sponsored by Lisbon.

Guinea-Bissau: EU Parliament Calls for Withdrawal of Foreign Troops
Strasbourg, Feb. 12 (Lusa) - The European Parliament approved a resolution Thursday condemning the continued presence of foreign troops in Guinea-Bissau and urging the European Union to provide technical and financial aid to West African peacekeeping forces in that country.
The resolution described President Nino Vieira's continued reliance on troops from Senegal and Guinea-Conakry as having a "destabilizing" impact on efforts to implement the country's peace accord.
