Lisbon, Feb. 18 (Lusa) - The secretary-general of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries travels Friday to Bissau, where he will attend the swearing-in of Guinea-Bissau's new "national unity" government, a Community source told Lusa Thursday.

Marcolino Moco was invited to Guinea-Bissau by Prime Minister-designate Francisco Fadul.

Moco and the local authorities will also discuss Community plans to help rebuild Guinea-Bissau's shattered economy, which has been at a standstill since a military revolt broke out last June.

Guinea-Bissau: 700 Senegalese Soldiers Begin Withdrawal

Dakar, Feb. 18 (Lusa) - Senegal began Thursday to withdraw 700 of its troops stationed in Guinea-Bissau, the Senegal Army high command announced in Dakar.

A smaller group of 200 Senegalese troops left Bissau on January 14 after the arrival of the first Togolese-led contingent of West African "Ecomog" peacekeepers. The Ecomog force, which now stands at 600 men, is to replace foreign troops who have backed Guinea-Bissau President Nino Vieira since a military revolt against his rule broke out last June.

The rebel Military Junta led by Brigadier Ansumane Mane has demanded the complete withdrawal of the 2500 Senegalese and 500 Guinea-Conakry troops backing Vieira.

The remaining Senegalese troops will reportedly withdraw when the entire 1450-man Ecomog force is deployed in Guinea-Bissau.
