Li
Tsan-hua (10th century) was the younger brother of a Khan of the Khitan
Tartars. In 931, during the reign of the Emperor Ming-tsung of the Later
T'ang Dynasty (one of the Five Dynasties), he came to China and was
naturalized. The Emperor conferred upon him the royal surname Li and the
personal name Tsan-hua. He was well versed in art and became very famous
in painting horses. He portrayed figures usually in the costumes of his
homeland.
