Lu
Chi (born 1477) came from Chin-hsien in Chekiang. His style-name was
T'ing-chen; his sobriquet was Tung-yu. In painting birds and flowers, Lu
Chi first studied the work of Pien Wen-chin (fl. early 15th century).Later
he copied the work of the T'ang and Sung dynasty masters, never failing to
capture their essence. His most frequent subjects were rare and valuable
animals together with flowers and trees; their colours are sparkling and
glossily bright. During the Hung-chih period (1488-1505) he served in the
Jen-chih Hall.
