There are two long handscrolls of Imperial Processions in the collection of the Palace Museum. One handscroll depicts the brilliant pageantry of the emperor leaving the palace, the other depicts his equally splendid return. Both handscrolls were painted by Ming dynasty court artists.

The departure from the palace was made by a land route, while the return was made by water. The use of the brush and application of color are fine and delicate. The figures and horses all possess a life-like
