Leng
Mei (fl. 17th century), whose familiar name was Chi-ch'en, was a native of
Chiao-chou. He is known today for expertise in figure compositions and
most especially for paintings of gentle ladies. During the K'ang-his
period he entered the court.
Critics
often point out that his work is perhaps a bit laboured and cluttered with
adornments, rather overly fine and meticulous like "boundary
painting," that is, the detailed painting of architecture.
